Nick does it again @PorchettaAndCo with a lobster mac and cheese sammy! #GoodEats
Went down to Porchetta and Co for their Saturday breakfast sandwich and a side of beans (it's been a while since I had them, so I had some craving to fulfill), when I ordered, Vicky (Nick's wife) kept looking up at the board on the side...oh hey new special, gotta try that too!
Deep Fried Lobster Mac and Cheese with Smoked Bacon and Truffel Sauce ($9.95)
Just so damn good, the only reason I need to be in Boston! #GoodEats #LobsterRoll #Seafood
This is my second visit to Belle Isle Seafood. This place is where I had my first lobster roll, and it remains the standard that I hold all other lobster rolls to, they've been around for over 35 years, so they know their stuff. No other place has yet bested Belle Isle in their simplicity and perfect execution of the lobster roll. The only way to describe my emotion upon arriving, as my friend would put it, is like a giddy kid arriving at an amusement park with a smile from ear to ear! I literally had a happy chuckle for the time we were there.
I'm here for 3 things: a lobster roll, chowder, and a pile of fried seafood goodness! I could literally eat here every day of my life and still not get enough of this food. Last year they moved locations, from a small shack beside a gas station to a much larger building just across the bridge in Winthrop, MA. While I loved the old place, it was cute, it has character...but it only sat 10 and had a slanted floor. This new place can easily seat 100+, they have a patio, a fantastic view of the harbour, airport, and downtown Boston in the distance.
Lobster Buzzers
There's not much to say about the food. It's just simple, it showcases the seafood, it's just very very well done.
Clam Chowder Cup (3.99)
Fried Seafood Combo: Shrimp, Scallops, Haddock, Clams, Onion Rings, French Fries, and a side of Coleslaw ($18.99)
Just the slightest amount of mayo on a nice toasted bun (thick cut of white bread sliced in the middle), it's just fucking awesome!...and yes I got a second one the the drive home (since it's not smothered in butter or mayo it keeps fairly well). I opted for the regular lobster roll which is made from the tail, claws, and legs ($19.99). While the tail meat is the most popular, I prefer the regular lobster meat roll more, I think the claws and legs give it a bit more flavour....then again, I got both and I'd probably do the same again!
Lobster Roll: Made with Only Tail Meat 1/2 lbs, and Onion Rings ($27.99)
Thank you @Bourdain for coming to this place, without your show I would be missing out on one of the greatest things I have ever had!
Well I didn't exactly have this planned...a night out in #Boston.
10 cocktails later, we finally decide to grease our stomachs a bit more...probably should have done this earlier, lol. Not sure if I've ever had this much to drink in the span of an hour and a half! Oh what a night...
The start to a fun night in #Boston. #GoodEats. Thanks @michaelserpa for a great meal.
We showed up at 5:30 to put our name on the list, little did we know, we got the 2nd last seats in the restaurant! After a 2 hour wait at the bar across the street and after many drinks, it was time to eat!
It was fun meeting the couple seated next to us, it's a small world and it seems like Torontonians gravetate towards each other! Hopefully we bump into each other in Toronto some time :)
I think I got my friend addicted to raw clams ;)
Wellfleet Oysters and Littleneck Clams
Lots of good flavour, but it was a but thin and the potatoes weren't cooked.
Clam Chowder ($11)
Perfectly seared scallops, just heaven! Great texture and temperature contrasts.
Seared Georges Bank Scallops: D'anjou Pear Butter, Long Island Duck Confit, Brussels Sprouts, Maytag Blue ($34)
Visiting Boston this time around I had to get my fill of chowder and lobster rolls. This lobster roll is what you expect, perfectly cooked lobster in a bun and not much else. This is what I love, simple. The lobster is the star of the show. I went with the buttered lobster, as per recommendaton of the server, and while it was nice, it made the roll soggy and a little gross in the end. This is still a really good lobster roll, but it feels like its missing something in the texture and flavour departments. I would have liked bigger chunks of lobster. The fries on the other hand, well give me a bowl of those and I'll be happy!
Maine Lobster Roll: toasted roll, available with hot butter or cold with mayo ($25)
Some of the best food I've had in #Boston is @TheDailyCatch. #GoodEats
A busy Saturday night means a 1.5 to 2hr wait, but it's definately worth it! In the mean time, send someone over to Mike's Pastry to grab a snack. This is my second visit to Boston, and my second time back here! I wish that this place was in Toronto, just so much good food here! If we weren't restaurnt hopping that night we probably would have ordered more!
